After the game, Jardim said some players remain short of peak condition. He added that if the squad were at their best, a coaching change would not have taken place.

The night also marked Gerson’s reunion with the Nação at the Maracanã, where he was booed and insulted before kick-off. He told journalists he would speak at the right time and planned to invite the press to hear what he has to say.

There was no day off after the win. The squad train on Thursday morning at Ninho do Urubu, the session set for 11:30 Brasília time, as preparations turn to Botafogo.
