Flamengo have asked about Thiago Almada, who is at Atlético de Madrid and played for Botafogo in 2024, but the Argentine is not looking to return to Brazilian football for now.

According to Globo.com, Almada plans to wait for the World Cup to gauge potential interest from Europe, which remains his priority. River Plate are also keen and would be serious rivals if he were to head back to South America.

A starter for Argentina, Almada hopes a strong tournament will prompt European offers. He was pursued by Palmeiras at the start of the year and is under contract with the Spanish club until 2030.

Last season he featured in 44 matches, starting 22, and recorded four goals and four assists.

Flamengo are prioritising midfield reinforcements for the upcoming window at head coach Leonardo Jardim’s request. He believes the club need cover for Arrascaeta, who is no longer available for every game. A centre-forward and a left-back are also being assessed.
