Flamengo make approach for Grêmio midfielder Zortéa as talks assessed | OneFootball

Flamengo have made initial contact over Bernardo Zortéa, exploring a possible deal for the Grêmio midfielder. According to Globo.com, terms were discussed verbally and Grêmio are analysing the proposal, without closing the door on talks.

Privately, there is a sense that if Flamengo formalise those points, negotiations could move forward. That view persists despite a positive internal assessment of the 18-year-old.

Zortéa is seen as a classic holding midfielder, positionally disciplined and strong in the tackle, with a tidy passing range. He is over one point eight metres, effective in the air, and comfortable shooting from medium distance. Staff have also considered him as a centre-back.

He is described as mature and balanced off the pitch, and regarded as having significant technical potential. Last year he spent around two months training regularly with the first team, having been closely monitored by the senior department.

In the Copa São Paulo he featured in seven matches, five from the start, across Grêmio’s eight games. He was withdrawn at half-time in four, with intensity flagged as a focus for his role. He also opened the rout against Galvez-AC.

Zortéa will turn 19 on 21 March. From Pinhalzinho in Santa Catarina, he was spotted at the Copa Umbro in December 2021 while at Chapecoense and joined Grêmio in March 2022, entering the academy at 15.

His representative visited CT Hélio Dourado this week, and his contract runs to the end of 2027, with Grêmio holding an option to 2028. Grêmio recently approached Flamengo for Evertton Araújo, without success.
