Flamengo players parade Palmeiras coffin, taunt: "No World Cup"

During the celebration of the fourth Libertadores title this Sunday, the Flamengo players taunted Palmeiras. The athletes received a green coffin with the symbol of the São Paulo club, and sang the “traditional” song about the world title.

In a party that brought thousands of people to the streets of Rio de Janeiro, the players celebrated with Flamengo’s traditional chants, lifted the Libertadores trophy, and had close contact with the fans. In addition to the celebration, the taunting of Alviverde, runner-up of the tournament, began with the players singing the song “Palmeiras has no World Cup”.

The coffin, handed over by the crowd of Flamengo fans, was also displayed to the supporters, with Wallace Yan lifting it during the party. The red-black striker further taunted Palmeiras, expanding the World Cup song with the phrase: “gets beaten in the youth and in the professional”.

Wallace Yan was part of the Flamengo U-20 squad that became Brazilian champions in 2023. In the final, the Red-Black defeated Palmeiras on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time.

More celebrations coming?

Among Brazilians, Flamengo has become the most successful Libertadores champion, with four titles. And they could still win another title this season. If they beat Ceará this Wednesday at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), the Red-Black will lift the Brazilian Championship trophy.

On the other hand, Palmeiras is still fighting for the unlikely title. With 70 points, five behind Flamengo, Verdão needs to win the last two rounds, against Atlético-MG and Ceará, and hope the Red-Black slips up against the team from Ceará and Mirassol to win the Brasileirão.
