Flamengo ‘to consider sacking’ José Boto as search for new football director begins

Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista is considering dismissing director of football José Boto and has begun sounding out potential replacements, according to ESPN.

He has spoken with several executives about a possible change in the football department, aiming to stem the crisis after Filipe Luís’ departure.

Two recruitment routes are being weighed up, one a more dressing-room figure, the other an executive profile to work alongside someone with strong acceptance among the players.

Boto has not been dismissed because no successor is lined up. Baptista and his allies do not want the club left without a director during the current turmoil.

Amid the internal issues, Flamengo turn attention to the Carioca final against Fluminense on Sunday at 18:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
