Flamengo ‘to rival’ São Paulo, Internacional and Palmeiras for Southampton’s Welington

Flamengo are scouring the market for reinforcements and are interested in Southampton right-back Welington. According to UOL, they will compete with São Paulo, Internacional and Palmeiras for the defender.

Welington left São Paulo before moving to England last season. He joined Southampton on a free in January last year.

The full-back has not established himself in English football, featuring only sparingly in the second division. He is expected to be moved on soon.

With the transfer window still closed, Flamengo remain focused on immediate assignments. Leonardo Jardim’s side face Bahia at the Maracanã on Sunday 19 in the 12th round of the Brasileirão.
