Flick admits Barcelona will miss Rashford | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has admitted the club will miss Marcus Rashford following the England international’s return to Manchester United after the expiry of his loan spell.

Rashford enjoyed a productive season at the Camp Nou, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 49 appearances as Barcelona won the La Liga title. Despite his impressive contribution, the Spanish champions chose not to make the move permanent and instead strengthened their attack by signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Speaking after Barcelona’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Birmingham City on Friday, Flick paid tribute to Rashford’s impact on and off the pitch.

“What I can say about Marcus is I appreciated working with him,” the German said. “Sometimes it’s not always… you don’t know what happens with players who are on loan.”

Flick also acknowledged Barcelona’s financial situation played a role in the decision, while praising the 28-year-old’s professionalism throughout his time at the club.

“Our situation also is not easy, but I appreciate him a lot working with him; he’s a fantastic player, a fantastic person.”

The Barcelona manager believes Rashford’s departure will be felt within the dressing room after a campaign in which the forward became an important member of the squad.

“I think also the team miss him; I will miss him, but that’s life.”

Rashford has now returned to Manchester United, where his future remains the subject of speculation ahead of the new season. Barcelona, meanwhile, have opted to reshape their attack through Anthony Gordon’s arrival as Flick prepares to defend the La Liga title.

Although Rashford’s spell in Spain lasted just one season, his performances left a positive impression, with Flick’s comments underlining the regard in which the England international is held at the Catalan club.
