Hansi Flick faced the media ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, offering insights into his squad, selection dilemmas, and the current state of several key players.
With Barcelona entering a decisive phase of the season, Flick made it clear that his side is not underestimating the challenge ahead.
“Vallecano play just as well at home as they do on the road. They’re an experienced team that plays with a lot of intensity,” he began.
One of the biggest talking points in recent days has been Joan Garcia, who recently earned his first senior call-up for Spain.
Flick confirmed that the goalkeeper is in the right condition to feature, both physically and mentally, stating,
“He can play tomorrow. I’m happy for him that he’s been called up to the national team.”
There had been uncertainty around Eric Garcia after missing recent training session, but Flick offered a positive update.
He confirmed that the defender will be available, although not necessarily guaranteed minutes, explaining,
“He’ll be on the bench tomorrow, and we’ll see from there if he gets any playing time. He might not play, but he’ll be available.”
He also addressed his absence from the national team, pointing towards workload management rather than performance concerns.
“He might not be ready to play because of the heavy workload. He’s been playing fantastically.
“He needs to keep up that level of play, and we’ll see in the summer. It’s the coach’s decision, not mine.”

On Marcus Rashford, who has seen reduced minutes recently, Flick provided reassurance regarding his condition.
The manager revealed that the forward had been dealing with a minor illness, which influenced recent decisions, saying,
“He’s been feeling a bit under the weather over the last few days, so we decided to play it safe with him. He’s back to 100% now.”
Looking ahead, Flick avoided making any definitive statements about the futures of players like Joao Cancelo and Rashford.
Instead, he stressed the importance of focusing on the present, making it clear that decisions will come later, as he stated,
“We need all our players until the end of the season, and we don’t know what will happen after that. There’s still time, and we also have the World Cup ahead of us.
“I have confidence in everyone: Cancelo, Rashford, Gerard… they bring a lot of quality, just like the rest of the team.
“There will be time to talk about the future; now is not the time to decide who stays and who goes. A lot can happen.”
Flick also addressed the dip in form of his attackers, particularly Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski.
“The most important thing is to maintain momentum and intensity, and that’s something we already saw on Wednesday.”
Ferran, in particular, received a vote of confidence from the manager, who noted his improved training levels.
“Ferran has trained very well; he’s on a different level, with more confidence, and he’s working hard to get back to his best, which is what we expect from him.”

Flick also took time to praise emerging players within the squad.
On Gerard Martin, he highlighted his attitude and development, stating, “Gerard is a great example of what can be achieved with the right attitude and hard work. Anything is possible.”
He further explained the process behind his integration, adding, “We took a look at him when I arrived because we needed a left back, so I spoke with Deco and Bojan, and we evaluated the players on Barça B.
“I liked what I saw. I think he’s improved a lot. What I see in him is fantastic.”
Meanwhile, Xavi Espart also received strong praise for his composure and mentality.
Flick described him as a calm and confident presence, saying, “He exudes confidence. He plays with a calmness that inspires confidence, as if his heart rate were very low.
“He has talent and great composure. With the right mindset and hard work, he could become a very important addition to our team,” he concluded.
