Sunderland have confirmed that 21-year-old winger Timur Tutierov has agreed a new contract, days after an eye-catching 5-1 pre-season win at York City.
Tutierov struck once and supplied an assist at the LNER Community Stadium, having started the first half under Régis Le Bris.
He joined from Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka in April 2023. Tutierov started the 2025-26 season strongly with the under-21s, scoring six and providing one assist in seven Premier League 2 games.
A loan to Exeter City brought three goals and one assist in 17 League One appearances. His future had appeared uncertain at the end of last season, with suggestions he could depart permanently in a deal similar to those for Zak Johnson and Harrison Jones.
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi said the extension rewards Tutierov’s progress and daily attitude, describing him as humble, hardworking and eager to learn, and reflecting the club’s belief in his long-term potential.
He added that Tutierov fits the profile Sunderland want to develop and said they are excited to see the next stage of his journey in red and white.
Tutierov will look to build on his York display through the remainder of pre-season. Another loan could be considered to secure regular senior minutes, although Europa League and domestic cup fixtures may also offer chances within Le Bris’ squad.
