Real Madrid began the election process for their club president on January 7th, however, an election wasn’t needed to decide who will lead the club into the future.
As the only person to put themselves forward for the role, current president Florentino Pérez will continue in the role until at least 2029, as per Marca.
This term will be Pérez’s seventh at the helm of Los Blancos, having first become president of the club in 2000, and leading the club that entire time except for a brief stint between 2006 and 2009.
During Pérez’s tenure, he has only had to run in an election twice, in 2000 and 2004, every other occasion has seen the 77-year-old businessman run for the position uncontested.
As part of this leadership, Pérez will become the longest-serving president in the club’s history, having aided the club to become a true powerhouse of European and world football.
Real Madrid Club de Fútbol was in many ways unrecognizable before Florentino Pérez’s presidency, and many Real Madrid fans will be left wondering what the next few years may hold for the future of their club.
If rumours are to be believed, Pérez is set to begin the process to find his successor soon and will have plenty of say in who that may be.
