Phil Foden was impressed with City's overall display to secure a convincing 4-0 UEFA Champions League victory away to Slovan Bratislava.

Ilkay Gundogan's deflected strike opened the scoring after eight minutes, before Foden's wonderful curling strike doubled the lead.

Erling Haaland scored his 42nd Champions League goal in his 41st appearance in the competition to make it 3-0, before James McAtee fired in his first goal for the Club.

It could have been more, with Foden, Gundogan and Jeremy Doku all hitting the woodwork, whilst Slovan Bratislava goalkeeper Dominik Takac was forced into multiple smart saves.

Foden, who was named Player of the Match after a goal and assist, was happy with the team's work under the floodlights at the Stadium Tehelne Pole.

"I don’t think it was easy, I think it was tough to break them down. You have to give them respect," he said. "Like I said, it was difficult to break them down and the atmosphere was unbelievable.

"We did the job in the end and managed to find the space but it was difficult at times.

"I had plenty more chances to score and a few other lads did too. On another night, it could have been more goals but we’re delighted with 4-0.

For myself it’s been a bit of a slow start to the season, so it’s nice to get back out there and score.  I’m feeling okay now. Back at it.

"I had a slow start to the season from the Euros, I’m slowly getting there now and getting back to it.

"I'm very happy with the performance, I know there’s still things I can work on and get better, I’m still a little bit rusty. Like I said I’m happy with my performance and the team performance."

The Englishman also reserved praise for fellow Academy graduate McAtee, who fulfilled a boyhood dream of netting for City in the Champions League.

"We’ve worked really hard for it. Macca has had a few loans and he’s come back and he’s doing really well and he’s a talented boy.

"We’re going to need him this season with all the games, he has to be ready.

"After the draw, we had to get the win. Our aim is to finish in the top half, so we’re on the right steps now."
