Alphonso Davies has apparently clarified his future. Here’s how the Canadian is reacting to Bayern Munich’s signing of Nathaniel Brown.
The left side of the defense is getting more competitive at the German record champions: A few days ago, Munich finalized the transfer of DFB youngster Nathaniel Brown, who will be a direct competitor for Davies. The 25-year-old is now ready to take on this challenge. Leaving the club is therefore not an option.
As reported by the Münchner Abendzeitung, Davies has no plans to leave; instead, he intends to go all out to secure his spot in the starting lineup. The World Cup veteran plans to “fight for his starting spot.” For Vincent Kompany and the team’s coaching staff, this means greater depth at a key position.
Davies has long been a fixture at Säbener Straße. He joined Munich from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 and has since appeared in 249 competitive matches, scoring 15 goals. In early 2025, the left back extended his contract through 2030—a clear commitment on both sides.
BILD soccer editor Christian Falk assessed the situation as follows: “I believe he will stay with FC Bayern Munich, and the club has no problem with him staying. They know he has a contract and that he’s a very good player. The problem has never been the Canadian international’s quality—it’s his susceptibility to injury.“

Falk also highlighted the value both players bring to the squad’s flexibility: “Davies can play two or more positions, and Brown is even more versatile positionally. There’s no clear reason to sell Davies, but if a really good offer came in, FC Bayern would consider it.”
It is precisely this susceptibility to injury that has plagued the Canadian recently. In 2025, he suffered a torn cruciate ligament, and afterward, a persistent muscle injury sidelined him. At the World Cup, the Canadian captain managed only a brief appearance in the round of 32 against South Africa (1–0). In the coming season, Davies is now expected to prevail over Brown in their internal competition at FC Bayern.
