Nottingham Forest pulled off a dramatic comeback at the London Stadium, handing West Ham a 2-1 defeat and leaving the Hammers staring at another frustrating setback in the Premier League.
Sean Dyche’s side recovered from an early deficit to snatch all three points, pushing the hosts seven points from safety.
The hosts started brightly and looked in control early on. Forest’s Murillo inadvertently turned a flick-on from Tomás Soucek into his own net, giving the hosts the lead before the break.
The second half started with more hope for the Hammers when Crysencio Summerville struck a fine goal, only for VAR to step in and rule it out for a marginal offside against new signing Taty Castellanos - a decision that would prove costly.
Forest didn’t need much of an invitation. Nicolás Domínguez rose to meet Elliot Anderson’s corner, looping a header into the far corner to level things up in the 55th minut. The London Stadium fell into stunned silence as the visitors seized the momentum.
The drama peaked in the final moments. West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola misjudged a high ball, colliding with Morgan Gibbs-White in the box. VAR once again intervened, and the referee pointed to the spot. Gibbs-White made no mistake, calmly slotting home to seal a remarkable comeback for Forest.
It was another miserable night for Nuno Espírito Santo, forced to watch his former club inflict further misery. West Ham’s struggles continue: they’ve now won just two of their last 14 Premier League games, and the relegation battle looks more real by the week.
For Forest, it’s a huge lift. The victory ends a run of four consecutive league defeats and moves them seven points clear of the relegation zone, giving Dyche’s men a real boost in their fight for survival.
