According to L'Equipe, this move is now "very close" to being completed, with the Frenchman looking set to return to his home nation for the remainder of the campaign.

The Clarets signed Massengo back in the summer of 2023, after the player decided to leave Bristol City following the end of his contract.

The midfielder joined the Robins back in 2019, in a big-money move from Monaco.

Many City fans were excited by his arrival, but the player wasn't able to make as much of an impact as many expected him to and he even made a loan move to Auxerre around six months before his contract expired, having been frozen out of the first team by Nigel Pearson.

With his move to Ashton Gate not exactly working out for the best, it was no surprise when he opted against signing a new deal with the club, instead deciding to move on last year.

It took quite a while for the player to find a new club, but he agreed a move to the Clarets in August 2023, signing a four-year deal in the process.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, he hasn't won much game time at Turf Moor either, and it's fair to say that his career hasn't exactly panned out the way he would have wanted it to so far.

Han-Noah Massengo set to Auxerre move

Massengo is way behind others in the pecking order - and his last appearance came against Coventry City in November.

Also failing to start a single league game this season, it's clear that the midfielder isn't a huge part of Scott Parker's plans.

With this in mind, it's no surprise to see that Massengo is set to head out on loan, with L'Equipe reporting that Auxerre will be his temporary club for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

Massengo is a player who could still have a successful career.

At 23, he still has plenty of time to become a real success, but it would be a surprise if he becomes a key first-teamer at Turf Moor.

If he had played more of a part this season, it wouldn't have been a surprise to have seen him thrive in Lancashire in the long term.

But he probably needs to move on permanently in the summer.
