Alba confirmed his decision on Tuesday, stating that he feels the time is right to step away after more than 17 years at the top level.

He said (via Inter Miami’s website), “This has been a thoughtful decision I’ve considered for a long time.

“I feel it’s the right moment to begin a new personal chapter and fully enjoy time with my family after so many demanding years in professional football.

“I’m very happy with my time at Inter Miami and truly grateful for the support of the fans and for having been part of the team’s successes, sharing special moments in the club’s growth.

“Now my goal is to finish the season in the best possible way, giving my all in the play-offs.”

The former Spain and Barcelona ace is known for his blistering pace, intelligent runs, and pinpoint deliveries. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in Europe.

Alba made 793 appearances, contributing 61 goals and 157 assists, a remarkable return for a defender.

He won six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey crowns, four Spanish Super Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Club World Cup.

Also, he won the 2012 European Championship with Spain.

After leaving Barcelona, Alba reunited with former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami, where he became an integral part of the club’s Leagues Cup-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami are already preparing for life after him, with reports suggesting the club is eyeing Sergio Reguilon as a potential replacement to fill the void on the left flank.

Reguilon is a free agent after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. However, whether he can forge that deadly combination with Messi that served Miami so well remains to be seen.

Alba’s close friend and longtime teammate, Busquets, also recently announced his own retirement.
