A one-time member of the academy ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona remains hopeful of one day sealing a move back to the club.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Xavi Simons as the player in question.
Unfortunately for the Dutchman, however, any such move, for the time being at least, is considered to be highly unlikely.
Attacker Simons spent the early years of his career developing on the books of Barcelona, before departing in search of first-team opportunities in the summer of 2019.
And the years since, across stints with all of PSG, PSV Eindhoven and most recently RB Leipzig, have seen the 21-year-old develop into one of the game’s standout young talents.
Across the season to date, on the books of Leipzig, Simons has racked up 14 direct goal contributions in 21 Bundesliga appearances.
And yet, the Netherlands international continues to dream of one day strutting his stuff back at the aforementioned Barcelona.
As per Fabrizio Romano:
‘Xavi Simons plans for potential summer move as concrete possibility, as reported weeks ago. Xavi dreams to play for Barça one day.’
It is also noted, though, that as much, this summer at least, is ‘unlikely’.
Instead, Simons’ most likely landing spot is the Premier League.
