The Swiss Football Association (SFA) said that Bachmann suffered the injury in training, and went down to ground without contact from another player.

Tests on Thursday showed that the 34-year-old had ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee.

The SFA said: “The examinations on Thursday morning showed that the player will be out for several months and will therefore not be available for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.”

Bachmann is one of Switzerland’s all-time best players. She has netted 60 goals in 153 appearances, since making her Switzerland debut in 2007.

The forward who now plays her football for Houston Dash, spent three years at Chelsea between 2017 and 2020.

She scored a brace in Chelsea’s Women’s FA Cup final victory over Arsenal in 2018, and won two WSL titles during her time with the club.

Bachmann left Chelsea in 2020 for French side Paris Saint-Germain where she spent four years.

Switzerland striker Ramona Bachmann ‘devastated’ to miss Euro 2025

Switzerland striker Ramona Bachmann said she is ‘devastated’ to miss her home Euros this summer after suffering an ACL injury.

In a message on Instagram, she wrote: “I’m devastated that I’ll miss the European Championship, especially here in Switzerland.

“This tournament was a big goal for me and I’ve given everything I’ve got to be ready for it.

“To suffer a serious injury now, so close to the start, is incredibly difficult to accept. Not being able to be on the pitch and represent my country in front of our fans hurts a lot.

“I will now focus on my recovery, but my heart will always be with the team.”

Who will make Switzerland’s squad for Euro 2025?

Switzerland will be without Ramona Bachmann in their squad for Women’s Euro 2025 which begins next month.

Head coach Pia Sundhage has yet to name her squad for the competition which gets underway on July 2nd.

Among those expected to make the squad are Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti and Aston Villa’s Noelle Maritz.

However, there are doubts over whether former Aston Villa star Alisha Lehmann will make the cut.

Lehmann has made Switzerland’s preliminary squad, however, she was originally left out of Sundhage’s squad for their Nations League clashes with France and Norway.

The Juventus player ended up being a late call-up for those fixtures after FC Koln midfielder Alena Bienz was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury.

Switzerland’s 23-player team will be confirmed on June 23rd. The Euro 2025 fixture schedule sees Switzerland kick off their campaign on the opening day against Norway, before facing Iceland on July 6th and Finland on the 10th.
