According to Voetbal International, Wouter Burger’s future appears to lie with 1899 Hoffenheim. The 24-year-old midfielder is on the verge of transferring from Stoke City to the Bundesliga’s mid-table side.
Hoffenheim reportedly see Burger as the successor to Anton Stach, who is in turn leaving for Leeds United. Sky Sports have reported that the medical is scheduled for Tuesday at the latest, and that Hoffenheim will pay Stoke City four or five million euros. This means Million Manhoef will be the only Dutchman remaining in Stoke-on-Trent.
Burger began his career at Feyenoord and played on loan for fellow Rotterdam outfits, Excelsior and Sparta. The former Oranje youth international then sought international success, first at FC Basel, and then Stoke City.
Hoffenheim are on the eve of their 18th season in the Bundesliga. The club finished 15th last season, three points above FC Heidenheim. The 16th-placed FC Heidenheim just managed to stay up after defeating Elversberg in the play-offs. Burger will reportedly sign a “multi-year contract” with Hoffenheim.
