Flamengo face Vitória on Wednesday in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil fifth phase, and Juan, who played for both clubs, says he will be supporting Flamengo.
"I end up developing a great affection for the clubs I represent, but when Flamengo play there is a special feeling because of everything I experienced there. The peak of my career was at Flamengo. I identified strongly with Flamengo." Juan told GE.
"But if there is not a positive result against a team I also care about, I am calm. Flamengo was certainly the most significant club, where I stayed the longest, with the most games and more titles."
Juan spent five years with Flamengo from 2006 to 2010, making 250 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 22 assists. He won five trophies with the club, three Cariocas in 2007, 2008 and 2009, the 2009 Brasileirão and the 2006 Copa do Brasil.
Now 44, he was a key figure in the 2006 Copa do Brasil success. He scored the only goal of the second leg of the final against Vasco, a 1-0 win, and was part of the defensive organisation on the left.
Kick-off is at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã. The second leg is on Thursday 14 May at the Barradão.
