As reported by David Van den Broeck, former Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet will leave Antwerp this summer. Praet’s contract is up in the summer but Antwerp won’t negotiate a new deal with the midfielder due to wage demands. Antwerp are looking to cut costs, and with Praet being one of the bigger earners in the squad, it is understandable that they will have to part ways. On top of that, his impact on the side has not been enough for them to justify the spending required to keep him.
Praet joined Antwerp from Leicester City in 2024 on a free transfer. It was Praet’s first return to Belgium, having broken through at Anderlecht and left to join Sampdoria in 2016. His performances in Italy earned him a move to England to join Leicester City, where he would make 60 appearances between 2019 and 2021. However, during the 2021/2022 season Praet was loaned out by Leicester City, with the midfielder returning to Italy to join Torino. On is return from the loan spell in Serie A, Praet played a further two seasons with Leicester City before leaving.
Kiki Kouyaté and Glenn Bijl are also set to leave at the end of their contracts in the summer. Vincent Janssen, one of the other top earners at the club, may yet renew his deal on lower wages.
