Former Manchester United midfielder and academy manager Nicky Butt has ripped into Chelsea attacker Alejandro Garnacho.

The 21-year-old Chelsea winger delivered a poor performance against Man United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

His former Man United teammates aimed digs at him on social media after the game.

He fell out with the club on several occasions and endured an acrimonious departure. He has also started causing a fuss at Chelsea.

The Argentine recently deleted all Chelsea-related posts on his TikTok before uploading posts of Man Utd fans calling for his return.

Butt has given a first-hand account of Garnacho’s character, and it makes for grim reading, especially for Chelsea.

Butt told The Good, The Bad & The Football, “I was academy manager at the time, and he signed in a deal where they also signed Alvaro (Fernandez).

“Garnacho was always a bit stand-off-ish. He had a high opinion of himself.

“I thought he had an edge about him. And when he got into the first team – I will just say what I think because I was there – he got above his station way too quickly.

“He got superstar status way too quickly. And that’s not a former player saying they get paid too much.

“I hope young players get paid millions, but he got superstar status too quickly, and he obviously scored the bicycle kick, which was phenomenal.

“Someone in that club or team at the time should have been swatting him down, and they might have been, and he ignored them.

“But the best thing Man Utd did was sell him because, forget his ability. I don’t think he is that great anyway, but I thought his attitude was a disgrace when he was at Man United.

“More importantly, when he left, and if you completely disrespect your teammates and the football club when you leave, then that’s it.”

Chelsea are already open to selling Garnacho, only a year following his Old Trafford exit.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior will need to make immediate moves to keep Garnacho’s ego in check and his feet on the ground if he is to stay at the club.

Garnacho can be a superstar, but he has to work for it. His ego alone won’t earn him that status.
