Hebburn Town have stepped up preparations for their first ever National League North campaign, with former Sunderland and Middlesbrough academy goalkeepers joining training. According to Sunderland Echo, the newcomers are gearing up for a landmark season.
The Hornets defied expectations last term, seeing off FC United of Manchester and Hednesford Town to win the Northern Premier League Premier Division after finishing the previous season in mid-table. Manager Daniel Moore has already added Tom Allan, Elliot Forbes and Jake Charles, and the squad will return to pre-season this week.
Goalkeeper coach Carl Morris led a weekend session with Callum Dobson, Sam Taylor and Josh Skelton, joined by two familiar faces. Former Sunderland stopper Dan Cameron and ex-Middlesbrough keeper Nathan Fisher took part.
Cameron, 20, had loan spells at the Trustmark Group Stadium late in 2024/25 and again last season. He was recalled by Sunderland in March, finished the campaign with National League side Boston, and his Sunderland spell ends later this month following confirmation of his release.
Fisher, 21, has been released by Middlesbrough and is seeking a new club. He joined Boro from Sunderland’s academy in summer 2021 and featured alongside Sonny Finch and Isaac Fletcher on Teesside.
There is no indication Hebburn are considering moves for either goalkeeper. Morris said involving them gives the club’s younger keepers a look at full-time standards, and he is open to similar sessions.
Moore wants extra competition for Dobson and is exploring a loan return for Sunderland youngster Isaac Allan. He believes Allan could progress to a very high level and, if a deal cannot be done, hopes the keeper gets an opportunity in the National League or the EFL.
