Former Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu has stepped forward to defend the Ballon d’Or candidacy of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, arguing that the 18-year-old is already the best creator in world football.

Deulofeu, currently recovering from a long-term injury, shared his thoughts during the presentation of the European Super Cup between PSG and Tottenham. Speaking to the media, the Catalan did not hesitate to back Yamal despite his young age.

“It’s not about who I want to win, but honestly, being a football player, watching football and watching a lot of Barcelona games, European matches, there is no doubt for me that the best football creator this year is Lamine Yamal,” says Gerard Deulofeu.

Making a case for Yamal

The former La Masia graduate made it clear that neither age nor the absence of a Champions League title should stand in the way of Yamal’s claim to football’s most prestigious individual honor.

“It can be young, it can be what people want, it may be that someone else has won more titles, another player, but if you watch the games, the greatest creator of football is Lamine Yamal.

“For me, there is no doubt that he has been the best this year,” defends Deulofeu.

Beyond his creative brilliance, Deulofeu also spoke about Yamal’s versatility and potential future roles on the pitch. “He is a player with a lot of room for improvement.

“Let’s see if he can start playing in positions on the field, further back. But he is a player who creates. And for me, the players who create football motivate me to watch a game. I’m delighted to see him at Barcelona,” says Deulofeu.

With praise coming from a player who once wore the same shirt, Yamal’s growing reputation seems destined to continue rising.

Whether his exceptional performances will be enough to sway Ballon d’Or voters remains to be seen, but for Deulofeu, the answer is already crystal clear.
