On Monday evening Manchester City warmly welcomed Muslim supporters, community representatives and staff for a special Iftar event at the Etihad Stadium, inviting them all to come together to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

This marks the fourth annual community Iftar hosted by the Club, with over 120 guests joining for the occasion.

The evening began with a recitation from the Quran, before representatives from the Club and City in the Community took the stage to share the ongoing efforts being made to foster a more inclusive environment for Muslim communities.

As dusk approached, a live Adhan, the sacred call to prayer, was played throughout the stadium for those in attendance.

In keeping with tradition, guests were offered dates and water to help them break their fast.

With the setting sun, evening prayers took place, followed by a variety of South Asian-inspired food offerings, providing an opportunity for guests to connect and celebrate together as they enjoyed their meal.

Mohammed Ullah, City Matter’s representative for Black, Asian, or Mixed Heritage supporters, who is also a Chaplain at both Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University and co-founder of Blue Crescent, Muslim Supporters OSC, commented:

“Our fourth Iftar was a remarkable occasion, uniting faith, football, and community. As co-founder of Blue Crescent I’m proud that the Club partnership sets a powerful example, inspiring others to follow.

I'm deeply thankful for the Club’s dedication, consistently supporting their fans and listening to what is important to us.

Their focus on inclusivity builds belonging, ensuring all fans feel welcome – a crucial effort we sincerely value. It was an uplifting night of unity, driven by their exceptional commitment.”

Mohammed’s term of governance is approaching its end. Acting on feedback from our fan engagement group City Matters, the Club has created an additional role to help to better reflect the ethnic diversity of the Greater Manchester area.

Throughout Ramadan and Eid, the Club is running various competitions which can be found on our Ramadan Hub along with other updates and opportunities throughout this special time.

As Ramadan draws to a close, the spirit of togetherness continues to flourish, setting the stage for the upcoming celebrations of Eid ul-Fitr.
