The FPF disciplinary board has opened proceedings against Deniz Gül, FC Porto and Francisco J. Marques following complaints lodged by Benfica. The actions relate to an alleged obscene gesture and the so-called emails case.

The case involving the Türkiye international concerns an obscene gesture towards the stands at Estádio da Luz after the clássico between Benfica and FC Porto on eight March. The federation said in a statement that Benfica filed the complaint on 17 March and the file was referred on 20 March to Liga Portugal's Commission of Instructors.

A separate case against FC Porto and former communications director Francisco J. Marques stems from the emails case, involving alleged irregularities linked to Benfica's internal correspondence.

That process concerns facts reported by Benfica on 13 March 2026 and was also sent on 20 March to Liga Portugal's Commission of Instructors.

Both matters will remain outside the public domain until the end of the instruction phase.
