After a weekend full of drama and late goals, attention quickly turns to who wears the armband and is the FPL GW3 Best Captain, this weekend becomes crucial as it’s the last before the summer transfer window slams shut and club teams take a break as internationals take over.

Arsenal & Chelsea both hit 5 this weekend, a reminder to everyone that they’re both very much in the title race while 16-year-old Rio Ngumhoa scored an injury-time winner for champions Liverpool to break Newcastle hearts after a huge 2nd half response from the Geordies following Anthony Gordon’s red card.

With Liverpool and Arsenal facing each other this weekend and Bukayo Saka facing a few weeks on the sidelines, it is advised to look around for possible alternate picks to trust with the captains armband this weekend.

After a missed penalty from captain Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United had to settle for a 1-1 draw away at Fulham after a match full of contentious decisions from referee Chris Kavanagh. All three promoted teams have now got a win under their belt as Burnley defeated Sunderland 2-0 at Turf Moor.

Tottenham continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad, it’s another example of how well Thomas Frank has settled into life in North London.

Let’s take a closer look at the standout options and which players could give you the edge in GW3.

FPL GW3 Best Captain Options: The Usual Suspects

Erling Haaland – Man City (FWD £14.0m)

It wasn’t as straight-forward for the City striker last weekend as many would’ve thought. Tottenham managed to shut out the big Norwegian goal-machine in a defensive masterclass by Thomas Frank’s side. He will however aim to get back to normality this weekend and no better way to do it than against a side he has a brilliant record against Brighton. Having lined out in the Premier League 5 times against the Seagulls, he has scored or assisted in all 5 (5 goals, 1 assist). It looks like a possible promising outing for the striker, who is already the standout captaincy choice for GW3.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (MID £14.5m)

He has yet to hit the form we are so used to this season but the PFA Player of the season has a goal and an assist after the first two game weeks. He faces Arsenal at home in FPL GW3, a tough fixture on paper, but Salah has a habit of producing in big games and remains a reliable armband option.

Jarrod Bowen – West Ham (FOR £8.0m)

A quiet opening pair of game week’s for the Hammers’ talisman, but Bowen remains a proven FPL asset. He faces Nottingham Forest this weekend, which makes it difficult to expect a major haul on current form. Still, Bowen is capable of explosive returns, but the Hammers are looking fragile and could be in for a relegation battle this season.

Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka have both been ruled out for GW3.

Overall, when weighing up the pros and cons of each player ahead of GW3, we think Haaland is the FPL GW3 Best Captain.

FPL GW3 Best Captain Options: The Alternate Pick

The Manchester United captain missed a penalty last weekend and will be determined to make up for that error with an appealing-looking fixture at home to newly-promoted Burnley.

Having failed to get a win in their opening pair of matches, United will be keen to bag their first 3 points of the season at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Both summer signings Bryan Mbeumo & Matheus Cunha have looked lively and they will give Fernandes plenty of opportunities to reach last season’s total of 10 league assists.
