France have qualified for the 2027 Women’s World Cup after a 1-0 win over Ireland on Tuesday, booking a sixth World Cup appearance in Brazil from 24 June to 25 July 2027. After the men in 2014, Laurent Bonadei’s side will also head to Brazil.
According to L'Équipe, three other European berths are already secured. Holders Spain finished ahead of European champions England, who are bound for the play-offs, and Germany sealed passage before matchday six, unbeaten and breached only once. Denmark completed the quartet, and League A teams will contest seven remaining European places via play-offs.
In South America, hosts Brazil are automatic qualifiers, with Argentina and Colombia also through. The region could add one or two more via the intercontinental play-offs.
Australia, surprise semi-finalists in 2023, advanced through their Asian Cup campaign, which was won by Japan. South Korea, China, the Philippines and North Korea complete the AFC contingent.
New Zealand took Oceania’s sole berth, while Papua New Guinea will try again via the intercontinental play-offs.
Africa and North America still have four places each to settle in upcoming continental tournaments. The intercontinental play-offs will award the final three spots in November to December 2026, then February 2027. This will be the first Women’s World Cup to feature 32 teams.
