UEFA confirmed on Monday that François Letexier will referee the Europa League final between Fribourg and Aston Villa at Besiktas stadium in Istanbul on Wednesday 20 May.

Two years after taking charge of the Euro 2024 final, when Spain beat England 2-1, this will be Letexier’s first European club final. He is 37.

He has handled eight Champions League matches this season, including Arsenal’s quarter-final second leg against Sporting Portugal, which finished 0-0 after a 1-0 first-leg win for Arsenal.

Letexier also oversaw the 2023 UEFA Super Cup, won by Manchester City against Sevilla after a 1-1 draw and a 5-4 shootout. He was fourth official for the 2024 Champions League final, where Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0.
