Frank Schmidt has drawn a line under talk about his future, insisting he will honour his Heidenheim contract despite the club’s bleak league position.
Heidenheim head into the weekend bottom on 14 points, 11 adrift of safety. According to BuLi News, Schmidt addressed the issue at Friday’s press conference before Saturday’s home game against Bayer Leverkusen.
“I don’t like it when such things are left hanging in the air, and I think it’s time to send a clear signal,” he said. “I can say here and now that I will fulfill my contract and stay with FCH.”
In charge since 2007, the 52-year-old stressed he has never said he was quitting and that supporters can rely on him to remain coach and see out his deal.
With relegation looming, the focus is beginning to shift towards a rebuild and an immediate push for promotion, a stance that will be welcomed by supporters and the hierarchy.
He added that he wants success again, saying the prospect of coming through next year together is what drives him.
