Eintracht Frankfurt are demanding a fee of around €80m (£67.1m) for Omar Marmoush amid an approach from Manchester City.

Frankfurt have been informed that Manchester City want to sign Marmoush during the January transfer window and are ready to firm up interest with a formal bid.

The Egyptian international has burst onto the radar of Europe’s elite this season after a stunning campaign in the Bundesliga.

Marmoush has scored 13 goals and laid on seven assists in 15 league appearances, with only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah directly involved in more goals across Europe’s top five leagues. Manchester City have now made a move to beat the competition to his signature.

Pep Guardiola’s side want to secure his signing in the current window as the Citizens look to rebuild from a difficult start to the campaign. City failed to sign a replacement for Julian Alvarez in the summer and Marmoush is viewed as a player who can ease the goalscoring burden on Erling Haaland. Full-back Josko Gvardiol is City’s second-highest scorer in the Premier League this season, with four goals.

However, Frankfurt are reluctant to sell their leading scorer mid-season. Currently in third place in the Bundesliga, the German side’s preference is to keep Marmoush until the summer as the club look to secure Champions League qualification.

Sky Germany are reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt have placed an €80m valuation on the player, though City are confident an agreement can be reached for a fee in the region of €50m (£42m) and €60m (£50.3m). Marmoush is understood to be keen to move to the Premier League this month. No negotiations have yet begun between the two sides.
