TSG Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich are top of the Frauen-Bundesliga after two wins from two. Wolfsburg and Leverkusen were also victorious in the eventful second matchday as we're treated to the first hat-trick of the season.

“Oberdorf Show” in Leipzig

RB Leipzig’s first home game of the season was played at the RedBull Arena against the champions. Bayern continued on their perfect start as they scored five goals without conceding one in the first two games of the season.

The headline story was Lena Oberdorf’s excellent performance on her first league start for Bayern. Oberdorf signed for FC Bayern a year ago, but she had to wait for a long time to make her debut because of a serious injury.

After coming on as a substitute in the Super Cup win against her former club Wolfsburg and in the Bundesliga opener versus Leverkusen, Oberdorf started alongside the two-time European champion Georgia Stanway in Bayern’s midfield.

She opened the scoring with a perfect header from Klara Bühl’s corner-kick in the only goal of the first-half. Her and Bayern’s second strike was a thing of beauty, however. Oberdorf curls home a beautiful shot from outside the box. Bühl’s set-piece delivery resulted in another goal for Bayern when center-back Vanessa Gilles scored her second goal in as many league games.

Heavy defeat for Frankfurt before visiting Madrid

Eintracht Frankfurt have to beat Real Madrid away from home to book their place in the league phase of the Champions League. However, they lost 3-0 away at Hoffenheim in Bundesliga before the return leg on Thursday.

The visitors were the better side in the first-half, but they couldn’t convert numerous clear-cut chances. Selina Cerci scored two goals after the break, which put her at the top of the scoring chart with four goals. Linda Natter completed the rout with an injury-time goal after a goalkeeping mistake.

Wolfsburg and Leverkusen record first wins

After last week’s disappointing draw in Hamburg, Wolfsburg were very close to dropping more points when they hosted lowly Carl Zeiss Jena. Two goals in the last ten minutes saved their day as they eventually secured a 3-1 win. Janina Minge and Dutch international Lineth Beerensteyn scored in both of the first two games of the season.

In the matchday’s last game on Monday, Leverkusen survived Union Berlin’s late surge. Roberto Pätzold’s side scored two goals inside the first six minutes, but the newcomers reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 87th minute. In the end, Leverkusen held on for their first points of the season.

First hat-trick of the season

Medina Dešić scored 19 goals for Nürnberg to help the club win promotion to the Bundesliga last season. On Saturday, the Montenegro international returned to her old club to score the first hat-trick of the season in a 4-1 win for Werder Bremen.

Hamburg are the only newly-promoted team yet to lose a game this season after their goalless draw in Essen. Matchday two started on Friday with SC Freiburg’s narrow win against Köln. Svenja Fölmli scored the only goal of the game from Selina Vobian’s free-kick delivery in the 70th minute.
