Fredrik Aursnes labelled unique by former coach on Norway return | OneFootball

Fredrik Aursnes has rejoined Norway training this week, more than two years after his last involvement. According to Glorioso 1904, the Benfica midfielder’s comeback prompted former coach Lars Arne Nilsen to recall treatment he never afforded anyone else.

Nilsen said Aursnes was the only player he ever allowed to attend training whenever he wanted. He would always place him in the strongest side and even shaped sessions around what he thought the youngster would enjoy. The coach admitted it was the only time he made such a concession, as he was keen for him to join his club and sensed he was different.

After linking back up with the national squad, Aursnes said it felt good to return, praising the pitch and the session and adding that it was simply nice to be back.

The 30-year-old had previously explained his hesitation over a recall, feeling it would look wrong to skip qualifying then turn up when a World Cup place was on offer. He described the choice as a very difficult one.

His return comes as Norway prepare a push to get back to the World Cup.
