Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has shared an exciting update on Alexander Isak’s fitness ahead of the Carabao Cup final clash with Liverpool.

The Magpies are set to take on the Reds at Wembley later this month, in what could be a huge opportunity for them to finally end their long wait for silverware.

It won’t be easy against an in-form side like Liverpool, though, so Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will want to have star striker Isak fit and available to play.

The Sweden international has been in superb form this season, scoring 21 goals and contributing five assists in all competitions so far.

Isak will be the one player Newcastle look to to give them hope of upsetting Liverpool in the League Cup final, and Shearer says he’s hearing the 25-year-old should be fit for the game.

“From what I’m hearing, he’s going to be fine for the (Carabao Cup) final,” Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“I guess that’s what Eddie Howe has to factor in over the next two weekends. Newcastle have got Brighton in the FA Cup, then West Ham the following Monday evening, so two games.

“If there is even a two percent chance with a doubt about someone, then I guess he is just going to leave them out in preparation for the final. I don’t blame him for that.”

Liverpool fans will no doubt hope Isak is out for the game as it will give them a much better chance of avoiding an upset, though Arne Slot’s side have been near-perfect pretty much all season.

It’s hard to imagine NUFC having too much for the Merseyside giants, even if it could be a close and intriguing game overall.
