Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Real Madrid and RB Leipzig are on the verge of completing the transfer of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, following a major breakthrough in negotiations.

Only the final formalities and paperwork remain before the official contracts are signed off by both clubs, bringing an end to one of the most significant transfer sagas of the summer window.

Financial breakdown of the package

The financial structure of the agreement has been fully established between the two clubs. Real Madrid have agreed to pay a guaranteed fixed transfer fee of €125 million to the Bundesliga side.

Beyond the initial fixed payment, the total package includes several layers of performance-related variables.

With easily achievable bonuses factored in, the total cost of the transfer is expected to quickly reach €135 million.

Meanwhile, the overall deal could ultimately rise to €140 million if all the more difficult-to-achieve bonuses, such as specific individual or team trophies, are met during the player’s contract duration.

Once these variables are triggered, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international will officially become the most expensive signing in the history of Real Madrid, surpassing the previous record fees paid for Jude Bellingham and Eden Hazard.

Financial windfall for Leganes

The completion of the transfer will also provide a substantial financial benefit to Spanish club Leganes.

Diomande spent the first half of 2025 playing for the Madrid-based club’s reserve team before completing a move to Germany six months later.

As part of the original agreement struck when the forward left Spain for Leipzig, Leganes retained a sell-on clause.

Consequently, the club will receive around 5% of the total transfer profit generated by the Bundesliga club from this sale, giving them a significant economic boost ahead of the new domestic season.

Final steps before presentation

Diomande, who recently recovered from an infection and joined Leipzig’s training camp in Austria to maintain his fitness, is now waiting for the definitive green light to leave the camp.

The player has already agreed to a contract with Real Madrid until June 2030 and has mentally moved on from the German side.

With the club-to-club breakthrough finalized, Diomande could soon travel to Spain to undergo his mandatory medical examinations at the Sanitas clinic before being officially presented to the fans as Real Madrid’s latest acquisition.
