Bundesliga Matchday 30 sees the Eagles travel to FC Augsburg on Sunday afternoon (kick-off: 15:30 CEST). Head coach Dino Toppmöller spoke to the press before the match about… … the stakes: “We need to turn our focus back to the Bundesliga as quickly as possible. We’ve won three of our last four league matches and want to carry this confidence forward into this game. Augsburg are very strong in the challenges, so it’s going to be an exciting contest. We know how important this match is.” … player availability: “Mario Götze is still undergoing tests, so we’ll have to wait. He definitely won’t be available for the match in Augsburg, but the other lads are all ready for the game. I’ll speak to Kevin Trapp about things after the final training session on Saturday.”
… the night after the Tottenham match: “None of us slept well, Hugo Ekitiké and Rasmus Kristensen told me that they didn’t get a wink of sleep. We need to shake off the disappointment as quickly as possible. The way that we have to approach the tasks ahead of us is to be full of positivity, enthusiasm and energy. We’re on track to have the best Bundesliga season in club history, and that’s motivation enough. We feel like we’re up to the challenge.”
… the formation based on Mario Götze’s injury: “This is something that I’ll talk about with the rest of the coaching staff. All of the other forwards – Igor Matanovic, Michy Batshuayi, Hugo and Elye Wahi – are available, which wasn’t the case a few weeks ago, and that’s why we went away from playing with two strikers. What we decide might not be purely for the Augsburg match – it might be how we set up for the rest of the season. We need to make quite a fundamental decision – even though there might still be some specific adaptations match by match.”
… the remaining matches: “We’re taking each game as it comes, and at the moment, we’re fully focused on Augsburg. You’re always in the running to pick up the three points, regardless of whom you’re up against. It’s always about the next match – that’s how we’ve approached everything throughout the season.”
