Gabi Zanotti praises Corinthians after Copa das Campeãs win over Gotham

Last Wednesday (28th), Corinthians defeated Gotham FC 1-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, England, securing a spot in the FIFA Champions Cup final. The result placed the alvinegro club in the decision of the international tournament after a consistent performance against the American team.

After the match, captain and goal scorer Gabi Zanotti commented on the team's performance and highlighted the significance of the victory, especially given the scenario before the match, where part of the international press favored Gotham to reach the final.

“We heard a lot, and football is played on the field, right? I think today, once again, we showed the value of Brazilian football. We are not here just representing Corinthians, but also our country, our continent, and thousands of children who dream of one day getting here”, said Zanotti.

Gabi Zanotti also explained the strategy adopted by the team for the match, highlighting the study done on the opponent and the efficiency of the alvinegro team throughout the game.

“Exactly, I think that was the game plan. There were no surprises, they didn’t surprise us at any moment of the match. We analyzed all the opponent's videos and knew that in this game, we would have less ball possession. In Brazil, we are sometimes used to having more possession, right? And that's why we decided to defend a bit deeper, due to the beginning of the year, with little preparation time, and because they like to keep the ball. But in my view, even with them having more game volume, we created the best opportunities. And that's football, it's not just about volume, it's not just possession. Football is translated into goals. I think we did very well. Perhaps, if we had been a bit more efficient, the score could have been better”, she commented.

The captain also emphasized the importance of the qualification and reinforced Corinthians' objective in the competition.

“Very special. Today was truly a very special afternoon for this group. Extremely happy. I think we have already taken a step. As I said, our goal is not just to reach the final, but to reclaim this title, to increasingly show our value and prove that Brazilian women's football deserves respect”, concluded the number 10.

Corinthians now prepares to compete for the unprecedented trophy next Sunday, February 1st, at 3 PM (Brasília time), against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
