Gabriel Bontempo has sustained muscle oedema in his left thigh and will miss Santos’ match against Palmeiras on Wednesday 14 at 7.30pm at Arena Barueri, in the second round of the Paulistão.
The attacking midfielder felt pain during training on Monday 12. Scans identified oedema in the posterior region of the thigh. According to Diario Do Peixe, the club have not given a timeframe for his return.
He had already sat out the opener for a separate issue. Bontempo had been away from group work after undergoing a septoplasty before Christmas to address a deviated septum. Following the game against Novorizontino he rejoined full training, but then felt discomfort.
Under contract until the end of 2027, he has been with the first team since last year. He began the season in the Copinha, was promoted, debuted in the Paulistão and did not return to the academy. He scored three goals in 37 appearances.
Elsewhere, coach Vojvoda will also be without Neymar, who is recovering from arthroscopy on his left knee, and striker Tiquinho Soares, who is still treating oedema in his left calf. Midfielder Zé Rafael has recovered from conjunctivitis, while Barreal has been regularised in the BID and can be registered for the tournament.
