Gabriel Gudmundsson issues injury update after hamstring scare in Leeds win over Liverpool | OneFootball

Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson was withdrawn in the first half with a hamstring concern during the 4-2 comeback win over Liverpool on Sunday.

The 26-year-old carried on after an early collision with Florian Wirtz, but around the half-hour he went down unchallenged and signalled for treatment while holding his right hamstring. “Sad,” he said. “It was a little feeling [at the back of the thigh], so we'll see.” He was speaking to Sportbladet.

He was replaced by Sebastiaan Bornauw, with James Justin moving across to left-back. If the Sweden international is sidelined, Leeds would be without a senior natural left-sided full-back.

Justin covered on his unnatural side late last season after Gudmundsson suffered a hamstring injury, missing almost six weeks following April’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Asked if it was the same side, Gudmundsson replied: “No, the other one. I don't want to go into it, I don't have an answer for that now. We'll see. I don't know. We'll see what the result [of further assessment] is.”

Leeds are due back in the UK this week, when Gudmundsson is likely to undergo further assessment. Manager Daniel Farke will likely provide an update around Saturday’s pre-season friendly meeting with RB Leipzig at Elland Road.
