Gabriel Índio will begin his Benfica career with the B team as part of a managed adaptation, according to Glorioso 1904. The plan is for the Brazilian defender to start with the secondary side at Seixal to ease him into Portuguese football and the club’s model.
The structure led by Rui Costa believes he has the tools to reach the first team in time, but growth will be gradual. Early priority is regular minutes in Liga Portugal Meu Super, seen as a more suitable context for his initial integration.
His arrival has generated enthusiasm at Luz. He joins on the back of scouting reports and positive feedback from coaches who tracked his development, with Braga boss Rui Duarte previously describing him as a beast and highlighting his physical qualities.
Despite that potential, Marco Silva and senior football staff see no need to rush steps. Benfica will monitor his progress over the opening months, then assess a possible increase in first-team involvement if his competitive response matches expectations.
For now, Índio is set to take his first steps in Benfica B, following a progressive path into European football without immediate pressure to reach the seniors. Inside the club there is confidence he could become a relevant option for Marco Silva in the coming years, provided he proves on the pitch the credentials that underpinned his signing.
