With eight nations left, a breakout World Cup XI in a 4-2-3-1 has been named. According to L'Équipe, Matias Galarza, Johan Manzambi, Julian Quinones and Ismael Saibari lead the picks.

Norway keeper Örjan Nyland, scarcely used by Sevilla last season, has shone. He saved a Bruno Guimaraes penalty in the 2-1 win over Brazil and impressed against Ivory Coast, also 2-1.

At the back, Sidny Cabral’s spectacular curler for Cape Verde against Argentina, a 2-3 defeat after extra time, caught the eye, and he has joined Trabzonspor for 10 M€. Paraguay’s Matias Galarza antagonised France but excelled against Germany, 1-1, 4-3 on penalties, assisting Julio Enciso and scoring previously against Türkiye.

In midfield, Belgium’s Nicolas Raskin supplied two assists against New Zealand, 5-1, and the United States, 4-1. For Colombia, Gustavo Puerta impressed alongside Jefferson Lerma despite a penalty shootout exit to Switzerland, 0-0, 3-5.

Out wide, Ivory Coast’s 19-year-old Yan Diomandé thrilled, with an assist against Curaçao before elimination by Norway, 1-2. Switzerland’s Johan Manzambi hit a quick double versus Bosnia-Herzegovina, then produced a goal and assist against Canada, 2-1, plus another assist against Algeria, 2-0.

Mexico’s Julian Quinones opened the tournament’s scoring against South Africa, 2-0, and added three more to reach six for his country. Up front, Bayern Munich’s 50 M€ signing Ismael Saibari, a playmaker at PSV, flourished as Morocco’s number nine, scoring in all three group games, and he might miss France after injury against Canada, 3-0.
