Gallardo applauded as River squad jeered at the Monumental

At the Monumental, Gallardo’s farewell from his second spell at River brought contrasting scenes. The coach was applauded, the squad were loudly jeered before facing Banfield.
According to SuperDepor.com, supporters began during the warm-up with chants aimed at the players, calling for attitude and commitment after a poor run.
When the line-up was read out, most of the team were booed apart from the youngsters, with Maximiliano Salas singled out more than anyone.
With Hernán Mastrángelo refereeing once the teams were on the pitch, the critical chanting continued towards the players. In contrast, Gallardo received constant ovations, including cries of “Muñeco”.
The acclaim returned after a goal by Lucas Martínez Quarta. The stands also voiced a traditional insult towards the squad, underlining the gulf between coach and players.
