Leicester City lost 3-1 to QPR at the King Power Stadium, a deserved outcome that left Gary Rowett setting out six failings.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Rowett used his post-match briefing to outline the problems. QPR had arrived on four straight defeats without scoring, a bottom-half side with little at stake, yet this was one of City’s poorest afternoons.
First, City gifted goals. QPR did not need to carve them open, with awareness and communication errors between Ben Nelson and Jakub Stolarczyk for the first two, then a free header from a corner inside the six-yard box for the third.
Second, the out-of-possession structure allowed opponents into good areas too easily. Third, energy levels were short in a three-game week, and Rowett admitted he considered sweeping half-time changes, having flagged fitness concerns since his arrival.
He made just one change from Tuesday’s win, and the team again failed to back up a victory. Only twice all season have City managed successive wins, with one of those split by an international break, and Rowett questioned the mentality to go again.
Fifth, he argued consistency of habits is missing, with basics such as running, tackling and defending counters not repeated. Sixth, the response after falling behind was predictable, yielding only two long-range efforts in more than half an hour, with too few runs in behind to disrupt QPR.
Rowett can rotate or instruct differently to add variety and resilience. If these issues persist and answers are not found, League One beckons.
