Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to the media following the team’s 1-2 win over Nice.
“Our defensive solidity? It’s one of our characteristics; it’s normal for us to concede goals sometimes, and that can give our opponents energy.”
“Many players performed at a high level, but sometimes we fall short at the end. Those who come on always do so with the right attitude, but we need to be careful. We must all be better.”
“Pellegrini? He has undoubted technical qualities, but in my opinion he hasn’t recovered well from Sunday’s match. He’s played a lot after so many months because today he was struggling more.”
“Ferguson and Dovbyk’s shortcomings? The entire offensive phase needs to be improved. We shouldn’t just point the finger at the center forward. Dovbyk is growing physically, we need to improve to enable the attackers to perform well. The offensive phase needs to be analyzed as a whole.”
“Tsimikas? We have a lot of games to play, and on the left we have Tsimikas and Angelino. He was reliable tonight, coming off a period of inactivity. Both left-backs have good feet, but they’re not very versatile because I can’t use them as central defenders, so I’m forced to rotate them, but they’re reliable.”
“The penalty incident was avoidable; we have a very strong, solid, and competitive core. We need players who can learn from those who play more, hoping they can reach their level.”
“The penalty was an individual mistake. It’s a shame for Pisilli, these are high, European levels. You need to gain experience quickly. Mistakes happen, they’re young guys, but they have to learn quickly.”
