Gasperini suspended and Fiorentina fined 20,000 for discrimination

Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini and two Serie A players have been given one-match bans, while Fiorentina were fined €20,000 over discriminatory chants aimed at Dusan Vlahovic.

The Disciplinary Commission has given its verdicts following the conclusion of the Week 12 fixtures.

Gasperini was sent off from the touchline during Roma’s 3-1 victory away to Cremonese, receiving a yellow card for dissent, followed immediately by another when he continued his protests.

The coach has been handed a one-match ban and therefore will have to watch from the stands this weekend when the Giallorossi host Napoli in a top of the table showdown.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy of Genoa and Como’s Ivan Smolcic have also been suspended for one game.

Fiorentina were fined €20,000 for the repeated discriminatory chants from their supporters aimed at Juventus striker Vlahovic, which prompted the referee to twice halt play and captain Luca Ranieri to warn they risked having the match suspended.

The Viola were also given a separate €10,000 fine for throwing a smoke bomb into the section where Juve fans were seated.

Como were fined €4,000 for delaying kick-off in their match, and Parma €1,500 for a firework thrown onto the pitch.
