It is only mid-September, but the air around AC Milan on the eve of their game against Venezia at San Siro is that there must be a change in gear or there may be severe consquences.

La Gazzetta dello Sport confirm that owner Gerry Cardinale will attend the game tomorrow. The last time he was in Italy there was a lunch at Milanello, following the defeat against Parma, and he met with the entire management.

The first defeat of the season, given how it had arrived, already risked ruining the plans. Against Lazio – with Cardinale in the stands but choosing not to speak with the players – Milan ended up rescuing a draw, but the cooling break saga was something he witnessed first hand and a media storm followed.

Cardinale wants to see a win tomorrow, and one where the team impress. The presence of the club’s owner is intended to be supportive, but a negative result would get everyone back around the table to discuss what is going wrong, including the heaad coach Paulo Fonseca.

Milan are already five points behind Juventus and Inter, and while San Siro will be sold out tomorrow Cardinale needs to see them walking out after cheering with smiles on their faces rather than booing, as happened after the Parma game.

The RedBird Capital founder ‘remains dissatisfied and the coach is the first from whom he demands a change’ as per the paper. He is convinced that the transfer concluded by the management is positive and has strengthened the team, and thus the performances and results must improve.

Games will arrive that risk being decisive for the future of the project such as the Liverpool match in the Champions League and the derby against Inter that follows. Gerry won the first derby RedBird were in charge for back on 3 September 2022, but only defeats followed.

Even before the match, Cardinale’s agenda includes an equally significant event. Today, Milan and Inter will be received in the City Hall by Mayor Sala, with the topic of the stadium on the agenda. The Rossoneri owner, whose presence at the meeting is yet to be defined, is still talking about it.
