AC Milan will face their city rivals Inter for the fourth time this season at San Siro on Wednesday night, and in the third different competition.
In case you had forgotten, there have been three derby clashes already in 2024-25. Milan took the first one 2-1 thanks to Matteo Gabbia’s late header, then Tammy Abraham’s last-minute winner brought victory in the Supercoppa Italiana final, and most recently a 1-1 draw was player out.
The two historic rivals are getting ready for two more games, this time in the Coppa Italia semi-final. The first leg is tomorrow night with the red side of the city being the ‘home’ team, and the return leg is set for three weeks after.
As reported in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, It won’t be a sold-out derby, but tomorrow night the crowd at San Siro will be significant. Yesterday, tickets sold exceeded 62,000 and the estimate is to reach 65,000 because online sales remain open today.
In Serie A, Milan have had the highest average of spectators of the tournament with over 71,500 paying spectators. In short, the trend will also be respected in the national cup, and with some late sales they could even push 70k tomorrow night.
However, there will be no tifo. The limitations imposed by the police following the investigation that a few months ago involved both Curvas means it will be a derby without spectacular displayers of the past, something unthinkable until a few years ago.
