Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino expects that Inter Milan target Albert Gudmundsson will still be playing for the Grifone next season.

The coach spoke to Genoa-based newspaper Il Secolo XIX, via FCInterNews. He said that he hopes that the Icelander will be in his squad for as long as possible.

It was always inevitable that Genoa’s Gudmundsson would be one of the hot names on the transfer market this summer in Serie A.

The Icelandic international scored fourteen goals and made seven assists for the Grifone last season.

And Inter have led the charge to sign Gudmundsson by all accounts.

The Nerazzurri have been strongly linked with the former AZ Alkmaar forward for months now.

As the Gazzetta note, Inter’s chase of Gudmundsson looks to be on the backburner for now. They are also working on other priorities, whilst a deal for the Icelander would be financially difficult.

However, Gudmundsson would reportedly be enthusiastic about a move to Inter.

Meanwhile, the likes of Roma, Napoli, and Juventus are reportedly all also targeting Gudmundsson.

Then, Fiorentina had reportedly targeted the Genoa forward during the January transfer window. Genoa rebuffered their offer, but La Viola are reportedly still keen.

Then, there is the possibility of a move to the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur reportedly see the Icelandic international as a target.

Genoa Coach Alberto Gilardino Expects Inter Target Albert Gudmundsson To Stay

There is no guarantee that Gudmundsson will leave Genoa this summer, however.

The Ligurians certainly won’t want to let go of him for cheap. And they would undoubtedly welcome the prospect of keeping the in-form forward for another season.

Meanwhile, Gudmundsson himself has enjoyed the best form of his career at the Marassi.

Therefore, staying at Genoa could very well be beneficial for the Icelandic international.

As for Genoa coach Gilardino, he said that “Albert is a Genoa player and he’s doing well with us.”

“As long as he’s at my disposal, I’ll enjoy having him,” the coach continued.

“The idea I have when I’ve spoken to the club is that he’ll stay,” Gilardino made clear.

“But of course, we know how the transfer market goes. What the needs of the club and player can be.”

Gilardino said that “Albert is a total professional, and when he plays for Genoa he always gives his best.”
