Germany are up and running in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Julian Nagelsmann's Die Mannschaft enjoying a 4-1 lead over tournament debutant Curaçao.

A stunning moment from Zürich midfielder Livano Comenencia temporarily left German supporters stunned in Texas, with the 22-year-old bagging the first-ever World Cup goal for his nation.

But despite his shock equaliser, it's been Germany who are in line for an expected three points this afternoon, and they had some Dortmund influence to thank for their two-goal cushion at the break.

A brilliant opener from Felix Nmecha in the 6th minute set them away on the day, with the midfielder stroking home a curled effort after a lovely one-two with Florian Wirtz.

In response to Comenencia's strike, Nico Schlotterbeck headed home on 38 minutes when he rose highest to get on the end of Nathaniel Brown's whipped-in corner.

Kai Havertz's stoppage-time penalty and Jamal Musiala's slotted effort just after the break put Germany out of sight, with a double-Dortmund moment giving them a springboard to a needed opening win.
