Germany held several World Cup records after their stunning start to the 2026 World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann's side were stunned by debutants Curaçao when Livano Comenencia cancelled Felix Nmecha’s superb finish, but they scored five second-half goals on their way to a 7-1 victory.

Kai Havertz’s second goal of the game helped Germany become the only national team with seven or more goals on four different occasions. Die Nationalmannschaft were involved in three of the five times a team found the net at least seven times in the World Cup in the 21st century.

Germany reached the final in each of the previous three times they scored seven or more – 7-2 vs. Turkey (1954), 8-0 vs. Saudi Arabia (2002), and 7-1 vs. Brazil (2014).
