After making the decision to abandon the Premier League all-time scoring record in the summer of 2023 in favour of almost guaranteed trophies in Munich, Harry Kane was criticised by some, who cited the lack of value in trophies won by Bayern Munich compared with overcoming Alan Shearer’s famous record.
Although Bayern failed to win a trophy during his debut campaign in Bavaria, he excelled individually, scoring 36 Bundesliga goals – just five shy of Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41. The following season, however, yielded the England captain’s first major trophy as Bayern regained the Meisterschale.
Now, in 2026, at the age of 32, Kane has enjoyed the most prolific goalscoring season of his career – and by a distance too. His 36 Bundesliga goals equalled his record from the 23/24 season, while seven in the DFB Pokal, 14 in the Champions League, and one in the German Super Cup brought his total to 58 goals for the season.
Starting the season as he meant to go on, Kane bagged a hattrick in the opening day demolition of RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena – a feat he would also achieve in Bayern’s final day victory over Köln at the same venue.
Beyond the scoring records he has achieved during his time in Bavaria, Kane has levelled up as an all-round player. Now excelling when dropping deep and progressing play forward, he can often be spotted almost alongside the back four, picking out passes for his wingers that a prime Xavi or Iniesta would have been proud of.
Back to the day job, though, Kane has scored at least a brace on no fewer than 18 separate occasions throughout the season – most notably against former rivals Chelsea in the Champions League, and in a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion, a game which effectively ended the Bundesliga title race.
Kane has propelled himself to new heights this season and is now deservedly a frontrunner for football’s greatest individual accolade – the Ballon d’Or.
